BA pitching ace Nathan Cook (Riverside, NC) silenced all but three Central Maine Community College hitters while setting down nine on strikes as the Wolverines came away with a very exciting and hard-fought victory, beating previously unbeaten Mustangs by the score of 2-1. Other than an unearned run in the second, Cook was in control the whole ball game, mixing pitches and speeds, and not yielding a single walk. Down 1-0 in the second, BA tied things up as Cook reached on an error, advanced to second on a pass ball, and was driven in on Pete Creamer’s (Groveland, MA) single to right centerfield. The go ahead run came in the fifth as Monte Marrocco (Winchester, MA) opened the inning with a booming triple to center field.
Sean Gavin (Keene, NH) battled the CMCC pitcher for seven or eight pitches before finding one to his liking and driving a sharp single to left, scoring Marrocco with the deciding tally. Cook made quick work in the sixth inning, throwing just three pitches to retire the sides and slammed the door on any chance of a comeback by getting three quick outs in the seventh. The Wolverines move to 7-4 and await the Monks from nearby St. Joseph’s College for a 4:00 game tomorrow.
