It had all the ingredients for an exciting win for the Wolverines. With two outs in the top of the seventh inning and the Southern Maine Community College Seawolves leading by a score of 6-3, the few fans that braved the chilly weather started toward the turnstiles. But Pete Creamer (Groveland, MA) stepped up and drilled a 2-1 fast ball into center field. Bobby Williams (Wilmot Falls, MA) followed with another single. With runners at first and second, pitch hitter Mike Murphy (Lancaster, MA) drilled a third single that scored Creamer and moved Williams to third. Mookie Nelson (Randolph, MA) then plated Williams with yet another hit making the score 6-5 and putting Murphy on third base with the tying run. Pitch hitter Zach Walker was then hit by a pitch to load the bases for the torrid hitting Sean Gavin (Keene, NH). But hopes for a comeback victory wasn’t in the cards as the Seawolves snuffed out the late inning heroics and came away with a hard-fought victory.
BA got on the board in the first inning as lead off hitter Monte Marrocco took a 0-2 pitch deep to left for a triple and scored on Gavin’s RBI single. Down 3-1, Williams led off the fourth inning with a triple of his own and scored on Nelson’s perfectly executed suicide squeeze to close the score at 3-2. Down 5-2 in the sixth, BA added a third tally as Murphy singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and score on another Sean Gavin base hit. The Seawolves added what would be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth, setting up the exciting seventh inning. The Wolverines, now 4-4, look to rebound against MAISAD rival Gould Academy as travel to Bethel on Tuesday for a 4:00 contest.
