BA vs. Fairfield University

After the big victory, BA faced Fairfield University in the semis and came up a little short with a final score of 8-6. BA could not contain Fairfield-they kept finding holes and capitalizing on them. The Wolverines would continue to keep battling with the most emotion and heart they have shown all year. Pete Dassoni (Ashland, MA) worked hard behind the plate for both games, going 5 for 7 on the day with 4 RBI.

BA vs. UVM

The BA Baseball Team traveled down to Lynn, MA to face off against the University of Vermont Club Team to open the NECBA championship tournament. BA’s bats came to life, with one line drive after another, from the line up, followed by a lights-out pitching performance from Cody Younger (Middleboro, MA) going 7 innings with 11 strikeouts. Topped off by a nearly impeccable defensive performance, BA would lead to a 17-0 victory.

BA vs. UNH 10/6/13

On Sunday, BA was back at home for a rematch with the University Of New Hampshire. Bridgton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning as starting pitcher Cody Younger (Middleboro, MA) cruised through the first three innings. In the fourth inning UNH would explode for seven runs, and add another four runs in the seventh inning. Falling 11- 4, Bridgton Academy suffered their first two-game losing streak of the season. The 13-3 Wolverines will play their regular season finale in a double header at the University Of Maine this Saturday.

BA vs. Merrimack College 10/5/13

Bridgton Academy baseball team traveled to Lynne, Massachusetts to play Merrimack College in a doubleheader this past weekend. The first game was a hard-fought battle that had six scoreless innings for both teams, and a total of only six hits. In a 0-0 game in the top of the seventh John Williams (Mashpee, MA) broke the seal, driving in Drew Proctor (Falmouth, ME) for the game’s first run. Two batters later Robbie Harris (Flushing, MI) and Williams capitalized and scored on a Merrimack error on a hit by Aaron Drummy (Norwood, MA) that stretched the Wolverines lead to 3-0 and would solidify the win.
In the second game, Brandon Glover (Croton-on-Hudson, NY) got the start and was relieved by Gehrig Schilling (Medfield, MA) and Jake Smith (East Longmeadow, MA). Despite four runs on nine hits the Wolverines struggled with runners in scoring position. The Wolverines fell short in the game, losing 7-4.

BA vs. Navy Prep 9/28/13

Cody Younger

After the midweek disappointment, the Wolverines got up early Saturday morning and prepared to rebound from their loss. Connor Johnson (Taunton, MA) got the ball for the Wolverines in the first game of the doubleheader vs. Navy Prep. He went six strong innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out nine. The future University of Maine Black Bear, who has arguably been BA’s most consistent pitcher all fall, kept the Wolverines in this game by battling through four errors committed by the defense. Johnson was given run support in the first with back to back singles by Johnny Williams and Cody Younger. Another four run first inning for the Wolverines proved to be more than enough run support for Johnson. Evan Morris came in the seventh inning and shut the door, with BA taking a 5-2 victory in the first game.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Younger got the start. The Navy bats came out hot in the first, but Younger battled for five innings allowing five earned runs on five hits. Luckily, the BA bats got hot at the right time. Kevin Huscher (Middleboro, MA) stepped up to the plate in the fourth inning with the bases loaded. After just missing a pitch to his liking in the previous at bat, Huscher didn’t hesitate as he laced a three-run triple into the left center gap. That proved to be the spark of the game for the Wolverines as they scored six runs in the inning and didn’t look back from there. Schilling relieved Younger in the fifth and the run support given to him was enough for him to pick up the victory, moving BA baseball to 12-1 record and keeping them in first place in the NECBA.

BA vs. SMCC 9/25/13

Bridgton Academy baseball opened up a busy week last week at St. Joseph’s College in what was considered a home game vs. Southern Maine Community College. BA exploded in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs on three hits. The offensive assault was led by Johnny Williams (Mashpee, MA) who got things going with a double into the gap in left center. After Aaron Drummy (Norwood, MA) walked, Cody Younger (Middleboro, MA) and Evan Morris (Pembroke, MA) followed with hits of their own, as BA would go on to take a 4-0 lead after the first inning. Jake Smith (East Longmeadow, MA) was the starter for the Wolverines, pitching three and a third innings, allowing two earned runs and seven hits. He was relieved by Brandon Glover (Croton-on-Hudson, NY) and Gehrig Schilling (Medfield, MA). After BA’s hot start, the Wolverines settled into the game a little too much and would not score again, as SMCC chipped away at their lead all game. SMCC took the lead five to four in the seventh inning after an untimely error. With their backs against the wall for the first time this fall season, BA had no answer for the SMCC closer who retired the side. The Wolverines suffered their first loss of the season.

In the second game, Connor Johnson (Taunton, MA) pitched the complete game with ten strikeouts. Anthony Sciaudone (York, ME) and Younger each had three hits apiece.
