After drubbing the Kents Hill School 17-0 just a week ago, one might expect a similar display of firepower as the Huskies came to Dolman Diamond for the last game of the 2010 season.
However, the BA offense was somewhat subdued, but when the final out was made, the Wolverines came away with a 4-0 victory. Thanks in large part by a complete game shutout by Gabe May (Portsmouth, NH), BA showed that it didn’t need to score a bunch of runs to come out victorious. May’s two-hit, nine strikeout performance was a near mirror image of his stellar performance just a week ago at McKernan Field.
The win puts the Wolverines record at an all time 28-9, surpassing the previous win record of eighteen victories set just a year ago. Coach Brad Smith, who had had just one other twenty-win season in his long coaching career, had nothing but praise for his team after the game. “These guys have certainly set a standard for other teams to emulate. It’s been a long haul for this team.
A 16-2 fall season, playing for the New England Club Baseball Association championship, two months of winter preseason, and playing 12-7 over the spring takes a lot of stamina and dedication. I give each of these guys a lot of credit.”
Smith also had high praise for his two assistant coaches, Troy Guidone and Karl Olson, noting “their contributions to our success have been immeasurable.”
