Eagles Hand Wolverines Second Straight Loss, 10-6
The Boston College Eagles scored six times in the fourth inning, then held on as BA mounted a seventh inning rally, to defeat the Wolverines 10-6 at Chestnut Hill. BA's Will Whittemore (Waltham, MA) was dominant for the first three innings, shutting out the Eagles on one hit while striking out five. The Wolverines provided Whittemore with run support in the very first inning as Andrew Gummow (Brookline, MA) singled home Mike Murphy (Lancaster, MA) for the game's first run. In the third, Mike Bullett's (Stanford, VT) two RBI double scored Tad Gold (Vineyard Haven, MA) and Tom MacInnes (Plymouth, MA) to give BA a 3-0 lead. However, control problems and several defensive errors opened the floodgates for the Eagles as they rallied for six runs in the bottom of the fourth. Nick Billingham (Oak Bluffs, MA) scored a lone run on the sixth on a booming triple to center and scored on a throwing error, but the Wolverines could not capitalize on the momentum. BC took a 10-4 lead into the seventh, but the Wolverines pushed two more runs across and had the tying run at the plate when the final out was made. BA slips a game under .500 at 4-5, and hopes to get back on the winning track as they travel to St. Joseph's College tomorrow for a 4:00 game.
