Crimson Top Wolverines in Season Opener

The Wolverines traveled to Harvard University for their season opener but were denied a victory in the first game of a doubleheader, as the Crimson erased a 4-1 deficit to come away with a hard-fought 6-4 victory. BA struck first with two runs in the second as Sam Stauber (Cumberland, ME) doubled home Andrew Gummow (Brookline, MA) and Tom MacInnes (Plymouth, MA) who had both singled to open the inning. The Wolverines pushed two more runs across in the next frame as MacInnes doubled to left center chasing home Dustin Brown (East Falmouth, MA) and Gummow. However, the Wolverines were held scoreless for the rest of the game, as Harvard scored twice in the third and fourth innings, an added an insurance run in the sixth to put the game away. Offensively, MacInnes had two doubles and a single and Stauber had two singles and a double. Coach Brad Smith was pleased with what he saw. “It reflected exactly what we’ve been able to work on since January: pitching and hitting. We got a complete game from Will Whittemore (Waltham, MA), and we had seven hits and relatively few strikeouts. We just haven’t been able to be outside enough to work as a team defensively. And that was evident today.”
