Wolverines Bounce Back For First Season Win, 8-2
The BA Wolverines bounced back in the second game of the doubleheader with an impressive 8-2 win over the Harvard Crimson. Mike Bullett (Stamford, VT) pitched a complete game, yielding only three hits while striking out six. Injured most of the fall season, Bullett also helped his own cause at the plate with three hits and three runs scored. The BA offense wasted no time getting on the board as they scored three in the first as Tom MacInnes (Plymouth, MA) singled home Bullett and Andrew Gummow (Brookline, MA). Kenny Brock (Burlington, NJ) singled to plate MacInnes with the inning’s third run. The Wolverines answered with three more in the third, as MacInnes unloaded a booming triple to the 410 mark in center field, scoring Bullett and Gummow. MacInnes then scored BA’s sixth run on an infield out. However, the fireworks continued in the fifth inning as Kenny Brock blasted a solo home run into Harvard Square to add icing on the cake. Coach Brad Smith summed up the day. “We scored twelve runs on nineteen hits, including three doubles, a triple, and a home run, plus two complete pitching performances. Defensively, we were much better in the second game than the first. It was a good start.” The next game for the Wolverines will be at Franklin Pierce College on Wednesday beginning at 4:00.
Crimson Top Wolverines in Season Opener
The Wolverines traveled to Harvard University for their season opener but were denied a victory in the first game of a doubleheader, as the Crimson erased a 4-1 deficit to come away with a hard-fought 6-4 victory. BA struck first with two runs in the second as Sam Stauber (Cumberland, ME) doubled home Andrew Gummow (Brookline, MA) and Tom MacInnes (Plymouth, MA) who had both singled to open the inning. The Wolverines pushed two more runs across in the next frame as MacInnes doubled to left center chasing home Dustin Brown (East Falmouth, MA) and Gummow. However, the Wolverines were held scoreless for the rest of the game, as Harvard scored twice in the third and fourth innings, an added an insurance run in the sixth to put the game away. Offensively, MacInnes had two doubles and a single and Stauber had two singles and a double. Coach Brad Smith was pleased with what he saw. “It reflected exactly what we’ve been able to work on since January: pitching and hitting. We got a complete game from Will Whittemore (Waltham, MA), and we had seven hits and relatively few strikeouts. We just haven’t been able to be outside enough to work as a team defensively. And that was evident today.”
