The Wolverines combined timely hitting, good defense, and solid pitching as they took the second game from the University of Maine by the score of 6-2. BA batters picked up where they left off from the first game with five hits in the first two innings to take an early 3-0 lead. Good defense snuffed out scoring opportunities for both teams in the third and fourth inning, but Nick Billingham (Edgartown, MA) opened the top of the fifth with a mammoth solo home run high over the 340 mark in left center. Wolverine pitcher Sam Stauber (Cumberland, ME) held the Black Bears with just one hit over the first four innings, but tired in the fifth as Maine pushed two runners across to closed the gap to 4-2. But the Wolverines responded with two runs in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach. Dustin Brown (East Falmouth, MA) came in relief in the bottom of the sixth and retired all six batters his faced. The Wolverines are now 3-0, 2-0 in conference play, host conference opponent the University of New England with a home contest at Dolman Diamond this Sunday at 12:00 noon.
