Pink is the New Black and Grey!
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and in an effort to help increase awareness, the Wolverine baseball team sported pink armbands in this past week’s games. The baseball team, along with the other wolverine teams, are making their support known.
Wearing armbands was a small way that the wolverines could show they care. “Our guys were excited to wear the armbands, and we wanted to show our support for those who have been affected by Breast Cancer. We are excited to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I hope that we can someday be part of the cure,” said Coach Izaryk.

BA Can't Thaw Frozen Ropes
The Wolverine baseball team had a tough last outing of their season losing to the Portland Frozen Ropes 7-3.
Sean Mullen (Barnstable, MA) and Joey McCarthy (West Roxbury, MA) threw a solid game for BA, but unfortunately it was not enough. Garrett Alibozek (Adams, MA) had two hits while McCarthy, Tanner Chase (York, ME), Austin Wood (Naples, ME), and Jason Hudson (Raleigh, NC) all added hits.
NECBA Playoffs start this weekend on October 23rd. Time and place to be determined.

UMaine Sweeps BA
As coach Izaryk stated, "UMaine threw the ball very well today, and we couldn't find a timely hit in either game. “ The Wolverines worked hard and never backed down. They played a solid game in the field limiting the University of Maine’s runs to 4 in the first and 3 in the second. At the plate BA was not able to capitalize, which resulted in two losses with scores of 4-0 and 3-0.
Christian Lavoie (Hopkinton, MA) pitched a great game the first game striking out ten through five innings. Joey McCarthy (West Roxbury, MA) came in as relief and shut the door, but the Wolverines were unable to mount a comeback. Bo Belt (Concord, MA), Ben Callahan (Exeter, NH) and Terry Casey (Halifax, NS) were the only BA batters to earn a base hit.
“In game one, we had our chances and failed to produce with runners in scoring position. Lavoie threw the ball very well, and seems to be getting stronger every time out,” said Coach Izaryk.
In the second game Callahan started on the mound and had seven strike outs as Garrett Alibozek (Adams, MA) came in to finish the game off. They combined for a great outing, holding Maine to only three runs but the BA bats were again cold, with Belt recording the only hit of the day.
“In game two, their pitcher threw extremely well. We hit a few balls hard, but needed to find a way to get ourselves in scoring position. I was very happy with the way our defense played. McCarthy had two very nice turns on double play balls to get us out of a couple big innings, Alibozek threw the ball very well behind the plate, cutting down a runner on a "strike 'em out, throw 'em out" double play, and Callahan made a couple plays on the run at 3rd. At the end of the day, we are disappointed with the outcome, but hungry to correct some mistakes this week in practice," said Izaryk.
The team will attend the Frozen Ropes Classic in Massachusetts this Wednesday to play at 4:00 PM.

Baseball Blanks UNE
The wolverine baseball team had an exciting win last night as they played the University of New England under the lights. The team had a shutout performance beating UNE 10-0.
Tanner Chase (York, ME) got things started with a first inning towering homerun. Garrett Alibozek (Adams, MA) and Austin Wood (Naples, ME) each added a pair of hits for the night. Sean Mullen (Barnstable, MA) had a great performance on the mound going four and a third innings before Christian Lavoie (Hopkinton, MA) came in to get the final two outs of the game which was cut short by the ten run rule. Bo Belt (Concord, MA), Joey McCarthy (West Roxbury, MA), and Ben Callahan (Exeter, NH) all added hits as well.
Coach Izaryk was thrilled after the game saying, "Sean Mullen was outstanding for us tonight. He threw a ton of strikes, and set the tone for our offense, allowing us to build a lead. Tanner Chase's home run in the 1st inning put us up 3-0, and with the way Sean was throwing the baseball, we felt the momentum in our dugout and carried it throughout the game. I was very impressed with our defense tonight, especially the 4-6-3 double play we turned to end the 3rd inning. Heading into a big weekend vs. UMaine, we need to continue to play clean defense behind solid pitching, which will make our jobs offensively, much easier."
The team will face their next team this coming weekend when they face the University Of Maine at home in a double header on Sunday October 17th starting at Noon.

Baseball Starts Parents Weekend With A Win
The baseball team took the field to start off the Parents Weekend activities and beat Central Maine Community College.
While the team was initially down 1-0 to CMCC, they turned things around for a big 2-1 win. Harry Knowles (Seabrook, NH) had two hits for the day, including the game winner. Knowles also put BA on the board as he scored the game tying run. Tanner Chase (York, ME) scored the go ahead run after a clutch steal of third base. Ben Callahan (Exeter, NH), Knowles, and Christian Lavoie (Hopkinton, MA) combined to limit Central Maine Community College to only 1 run over seven innings.
It was a big win after losing to CMCC earlier in the season. "We played a complete baseball game today. We had an outstanding pitching effort on the mound from Ben Callahan, followed with strong work out of the bullpen by Harry & Christian. Any time you can win a ball game 2-1, you played well. I thought we took care of the ball defensively, and did the right things offensively against a quality sophomore pitcher at CMCC. I'm proud of the way the guys played the game today, and excited to start parent's weekend with a win," said Coach Izaryk.
The team will take the field next as they travel to the University of New England to play at 7:00 PM on Wednesday October 13th.
