A Full Days Work

The BA baseball team had an early start today as they kick the season off. With a full day practices Coach Izaryk had his team working hard and only had good things to say.

"I think this year's BA baseball team has a chance to have a great season. With a mix of athleticism, strength and raw talent, our squad will play the game hard, practice the fundamentals and improve with every opportunity we have to step on the field. I think that our infield defense could be our biggest strength, followed closely by our will to win and desire to compete. The 2010 BA baseball team is a special group of players who will push each other every day, and push our program in the right direction."

With an excited group of players and coaches, the baseball team starts their season off with a home opener on September 8th vs. Southern Maine CC at 4:00.

Wolverines Takes Care of Business

After drubbing the Kents Hill School 17-0 just a week ago, one might expect a similar display of firepower as the Huskies came to Dolman Diamond for the last game of the 2010 season.

However, the BA offense was somewhat subdued, but when the final out was made, the Wolverines came away with a 4-0 victory. Thanks in large part by a complete game shutout by Gabe May (Portsmouth, NH), BA showed that it didn’t need to score a bunch of runs to come out victorious. May’s two-hit, nine strikeout performance was a near mirror image of his stellar performance just a week ago at McKernan Field.

The win puts the Wolverines record at an all time 28-9, surpassing the previous win record of eighteen victories set just a year ago. Coach Brad Smith, who had had just one other twenty-win season in his long coaching career, had nothing but praise for his team after the game. “These guys have certainly set a standard for other teams to emulate. It’s been a long haul for this team.

A 16-2 fall season, playing for the New England Club Baseball Association championship, two months of winter preseason, and playing 12-7 over the spring takes a lot of stamina and dedication. I give each of these guys a lot of credit.”

Smith also had high praise for his two assistant coaches, Troy Guidone and Karl Olson, noting “their contributions to our success have been immeasurable.”

Wolverines Tame Seawolves, 13-6

The BA bats continue to pound opposition pitching as they collected thirteen hits, including three home runs, off of four different pitchers as they coasted to a 13-6 victory at the hands of Southern Maine Community College in South Portland.

As they have done many games before, the Wolverines struck in the very first inning as Tom MacInnes (Plymouth, MA) drilled a 2-0 pitch into center field scoring Mike Murphy (Lancaster, MA) and Tad Gold (Vineyard Haven, MA).

After a scoreless second inning, BA scored in the third as MacInnes singled home Dustin Brown (East Falmouth, MA) to take a 3-0 lead. The Seawolves then tied the score in the bottom of the same inning with three unearned runs, but the Wolverines responded with four runs in the fourth on two run homers by Brown and Mike Bullett (Stamford, VT) that upped the score 7-3. Sam Stauber's (Cumberland, ME) two RBI single in the fifth all but put the game out of reach at 9-3, but the hit parade wasn't over as the Wolverines scored four more times in the sixth that included another round tripper, this time by Nick Billingham (Edgartown, MA).

The run support was more than enough for Mike Bullett as he picked up his sixth win consecutive of the spring season.

Now 27-9, the Wolverines' final game of the year will be home on Dolman Diamond this Friday at 4:00 against conference opponent, Kents Hill.
