Wolverines Make Quick Work of Winchendon
BA pitcher Lane Garvey (Marlborough, MA) limited the Winchendon School to just one hit and no runs while striking out five en route to his first win of the season. The Wolverine offense gave him plenty of support, feasting off of two Winchendon pitchers for twenty hits - including three home runs and five doubles - that produced twenty-eight runs. Joining the list of multiple hitters included Sean Gavin (Keene, NH), Brandon Dutch (Monroe, CT), Nathan Cook (Riverside, NH), Pete Creamer (Groveland, MA) and Brian Murray (Burlington, MA). The defensive gem of the day came in the fourth inning as Murray caught a long fly ball in right field and then gunned down a Winchendon player who has tagged third and attempted to score his team’s only run. The victory climaxes a successful week for the Wolverines, winning five out six games played in as many days. Standing at 9-4, the Wolverines face an intense schedule this week with eight games, including a Sunday doubleheader with Navy Prep. However, the main focus will be tomorrow’s 4:00 home game against MAISAD opponent, the Kents Hill School. A win will guarantee the Wolverines at least a share of the conference title.
Wolverines Top Monks, 5-2
The BA Wolverines combined good pitching, solid defense, and timely hitting to win their eighth game of the season, 5-2, over the Monks of St. Joseph’s College. Winning pitcher Sean Mullaney (Newton, MA) went five innings, giving up a pair of hits and a pair of runs, while stiking out four. Zach Walker (Hingham, MA) was again effective in relief, pitching two scoreless frames while striking out three. The Wolverines score twice in the third and twice in the fifth and added an insurance run in the sixth. St. Joeseph’s responded with single runs in the fourth and fifth. The Wolverines managed only four hits but took advantage of some shaky Monk’s pitching, as they scored on twice on wild pitches. The BA defense helped the cause as they turned two nifty double plays. The win is the third straight in as many days over college opponents and the fourth win in five games this week. The last long road trip of the season comes at the midpoint of the schedule as the Wolverines travel to the Winchendon School on Saturday for a 1:30 contest.

Nathan ‘Cooks’ Central Maine - Well Done!
BA pitching ace Nathan Cook (Riverside, NC) silenced all but three Central Maine Community College hitters while setting down nine on strikes as the Wolverines came away with a very exciting and hard-fought victory, beating previously unbeaten Mustangs by the score of 2-1.
Other than an unearned run in the second, Cook was in control the whole ball game, mixing pitches and speeds, and not yielding a single walk. Down 1-0 in the second, BA tied things up as Cook reached on an error, advanced to second on a pass ball, and was driven in on Pete Creamer’s (Groveland, MA) single to right centerfield. The go ahead run came in the fifth as Monte Marrocco (Winchester, MA) opened the inning with a booming triple to center field.
Sean Gavin (Keene, NH) battled the CMCC pitcher for seven or eight pitches before finding one to his liking and driving a sharp single to left, scoring Marrocco with the deciding tally. Cook made quick work in the sixth inning, throwing just three pitches to retire the sides and slammed the door on any chance of a comeback by getting three quick outs in the seventh. The Wolverines move to 7-4 and await the Monks from nearby St. Joseph’s College for a 4:00 game tomorrow.

Wolverines Outlast Harvard in Ten Innings, 9-8
In a wild and wooly affair in Cambridge, MA, the Wolverines overcame five errors in the first four innings, but came back and played errorless ball over the next six to beat the Crimson of Harvard, 9-8 in ten innings. BA drew first blood in the top of the second as Nathan Cook (Riverside, SC) launched a 2-0 fastball high over the 370 mark in left field to make the score 1-0. The Wolverines added four more in the third, but shoddy infield defense let Harvard tie the score at 6-6 after four innings. BA came back in the fifth with two runs, making the score 8-6, but Harvard responded with two of their own to tie the game 8-8 in the bottom of the seventh. Both teams had opportunities to decide the game in the eighth and ninth innings, but good pitching and good defense kept the score locked until the tenth. With one out in the top of the tenth, Mookie Nelson (Randolph, MA) singled to left and promptly stole second base. A pass ball advanced him to third, and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Sean Gavin (Keene, NH) to put the Wolverines ahead 9-8. Zach Walker (Hingham, MA) came out to pitch in the tenth after a superlative relief performance in the ninth, striking out three of the four Harvard batters he faced in that inning. Walker sealed the win in the bottom of the tenth as he retired all three batters with infield ground ball outs. The win puts the Wolverines at 6-4. It was noted by more than a few in attendance that TV/movie actor Tommy Lee Jones was in the stands for that last couple of innings, no doubt cheering on the Wolverines. However, his presence was overshadowed as Sean Gavin’s sacrifice fly to win the game set a new school record with twenty-eight runs batted in, breaking the old record set last year by Ryan D’Arcy, who is currently on the roster at the University of Southern Maine. Central Maine Community College is up next on the schedule as they come to face the Wolverines tomorrow at Dolman Field at 4:00.

Wolverines Prepare for Tough Road Ahead
Pitchers Lane Garvey (Marlborough, MA), Billy Kenyon (Avon, CT), and Barrett Elliott (Foxborough, MA) shared the spotlight, shutting out MAISAD rival Gould Academy as the Wolverines upped their record to 5-4. The pitching trio held Gould to just one hit while striking out a dozen over five innings. With that conference win in hand, BA coach Brad Smith looks ahead to Wednesday’s contest against Harvard. “We’ll have our work cut out for us, for sure. I never know what to expect from them. We’ve faced inexperienced freshmen pitchers as well as veteran seniors finishing rehab.” Look for a Gavin Scott (Vienna, VA) to get the nod on the mound as he guns for his third straight win. After Harvard, the Wolverines return home to face two more college opponents. Central Maine Community College comes to North Bridgton on Thursday. Game time is set for 4:00. Nathan Cook (Riverside, SC) is slated to get his third start of the season. Nearby St. Joseph’s College finishes the brief Wolverine homestand as they make the short drive for a 4:00 contest on Friday. Bobby Williams (Wilmot Falls, MA), Monday’s hard-luck loser to Southern Maine Community College, will toe the rubber for that encounter. BA’s sixth game of the week ends on Saturday as the Wolverines travel to Massachusetts to take on the Winchendon School at 1:30. Smith is hoping that pitcher Sean Mullaney (Newton, MA) will back from a brief sickness to go after his second victory.

Late Wolverine Rally Falls Short
It had all the ingredients for an exciting win for the Wolverines. With two outs in the top of the seventh inning and the Southern Maine Community College Seawolves leading by a score of 6-3, the few fans that braved the chilly weather started toward the turnstiles. But Pete Creamer (Groveland, MA) stepped up and drilled a 2-1 fast ball into center field. Bobby Williams (Wilmot Falls, MA) followed with another single. With runners at first and second, pitch hitter Mike Murphy (Lancaster, MA) drilled a third single that scored Creamer and moved Williams to third. Mookie Nelson (Randolph, MA) then plated Williams with yet another hit making the score 6-5 and putting Murphy on third base with the tying run. Pitch hitter Zach Walker was then hit by a pitch to load the bases for the torrid hitting Sean Gavin (Keene, NH). But hopes for a comeback victory wasn’t in the cards as the Seawolves snuffed out the late inning heroics and came away with a hard-fought victory.
BA got on the board in the first inning as lead off hitter Monte Marrocco took a 0-2 pitch deep to left for a triple and scored on Gavin’s RBI single. Down 3-1, Williams led off the fourth inning with a triple of his own and scored on Nelson’s perfectly executed suicide squeeze to close the score at 3-2. Down 5-2 in the sixth, BA added a third tally as Murphy singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and score on another Sean Gavin base hit. The Seawolves added what would be the winning run in the bottom of the sixth, setting up the exciting seventh inning. The Wolverines, now 4-4, look to rebound against MAISAD rival Gould Academy as travel to Bethel on Tuesday for a 4:00 contest.

Wolverines Top Holderness for Third Straight Win
The BA bats did not have time to cool off after yesterday's eigthteen-hit attack against BB&N, as the Wolverine offense pounded out sixteen more today, soundly defeating the Holderness School, 22-7 for their third win in a row. The Wolverines wasted no time getting things started, scoring eleven runs on eight hits in just the first inning, thanks in no small part to Nathan Cook's (Riverside, SC) monster three-run homer to left center field. Apparently not impressed, Holderness came back with three runs in the second and two in the third to cut the lead to six. After a scoreless second inning, BA put the game out of reach in the third inning with eight more runs. BA starting pitcher Sean Mullaney (Newton, MA) pitched two strong innings before handing the ball over to Zach Walker (Hingham, MA) who finished the game. Once again, the dynamic duo of Sean Gavin (Keene, NH) and Brandon Dutch (Monroe, CT) led the Wolverine hit parade with three hits apiece. Brian Murray (Burlington, MA) and Nate Cook were close behind with a pair of doubles, and a home run and single respectively. Now 4-3, the Wolverines look forward to another busy week against four college teams and two against prep school nines.
