School Is Back In Session!

Following a relaxing winter break, the students are back on campus and school is in full swing. The baseball team is hitting the books and the gym to prepare for the second semester and their spring season. And of course, Mother Nature welcomed everyone back with a nice snow storm, which will make for some great after school skiing!

George Seigel Commits to Keene State

George Seigel (Concord, NH) has committed to Keene State for the upcoming year where he will be a member of the Owl’s baseball team.

When asked about his decision, Seigel commented, “They have a great business program and a competitive baseball team. It’s close to home, so my parents will still be able to watch me play which is really important. I felt very comfortable when I visited, and it helps that there is such a strong BA alumni population already on campus.”

Coach Izaryk added, "I'm excited that Keene State continues to be a destination for our players. I think Coach Howe, along with Coach Testo, runs a tremendous program, and I think George has the potential to be an impact arm for them right away. George's intensity will serve him well in the very competitive, nationally ranked Little East Conference. George has made a lot of positive strides as a student-athlete here at Bridgton this fall, and I think he has the ability to help Keene compete for a national title in years to come."

Nick Swim Commits to NJIT

Nick Swim (St. Albans, VT) has recently committed to the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he will attend in the fall and compete on the Highlanders baseball team.

Swim is excited about the opportunity commenting, “I loved everything about the school. They have a great campus, a competitive academics and athletics with good facilities, big dorms, and the perfect location not far from the city and some close family. I really connected with the coaches and the players on the team, and I am really excited about the possibilities.”

Coach Izaryk added, "Nick's commitment to Coach Cole at New Jersey Tech is an exciting one for our program. With Nick's leadership ability and work ethic, he has a chance to be a strong player at NJIT and compete for a job right away. Nick came to BA with many accolades, including the Gatorade Player of the Year in Vermont (2011), and we're excited to have him as one of our captain's this year. Nick's understanding of the game and competitive nature will allow him to transition into the fast-paced environment of NCAA Division 1 baseball. With Coach Cole heading into his 3rd year in 2012, New Jersey Tech is a program that projects to be very good during Nick's four years in the Great West Conference, and I'm confident Nick will help NJIT baseball get to the next level."

Zach Littman Commits To UMass Amherst

Zach Littman (Abington, MA) was the first of the 2011-2012 Wolverines to commit to college. In the fall, Littman will attend the University of Massachusetts Amherst as a member of the Minutemen’s baseball team.

When asked about his decision, Littman commented, “When I was looking at schools, I wanted one that had great academics, a great baseball program, and is close to home. It has always been my dream and goal to play at the highest level of competition, and I have finally achieved it. UMass is everything I am looking for and I am very excited about the opportunity.”

Coach Izaryk added, "I am excited about Zach's commitment to UMass. Zach had a goal of playing college baseball at the highest level, and he has worked very hard to achieve it. Zach has consistently done more than expected here in our program, and I fully expect Zach to continue that trend next fall for Coach Stone. As our first commitment of the fall, Zach represents everything we look for in a student-athlete."

Zach Littman Named Co-Athlete of the Month!

Congratulations to Zach Littman (Abington, MA) who was named Co-Athlete of the Month for October! Littman helped the baseball team to an overall record of 7-2 to finish out the season. Littman was strong in ever aspect of the game. He batted .470 with four doubles and 5 RBIs. Littman scored 8 runs, with 6 stolen bases. On the mound, he saved two games by striking out 7 batters in 3 innings pitched. Littman is a leader on and off the field, and that attitude will continue to the University of Massachusetts-Amherst where he has recently committed. Baseball Put Up A Good Fight in NECBA Playoffs

The baseball team traveled to Lynn, Massachusetts for a playoff NECBA game. Bridgton took on Babson College and won 5-2 to advance to the next round. George Seigel (Concord, NH) threw five strong innings, allowing no runs on just one hit. Cam Charette (Wenham, MA) got the win, and Walker O'Connor (Bedford, MA) earned the save. Danny Wynne (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ) had a two RBI double, and Brendan McDonough (Chelmsford, MA) added the game winning RBI. Caulin Rogers (Gloucester, MA) scored the winning run, after pinch running, stealing 2nd base and scoring from 2nd.

The Wolverines then took on Fairfield University in the semi final round of the NECBA tournament and played the closest game of the season, extending play late into 14 innings. After a tough battle, Fairfield ultimately took an 8-7 win.

Eoin McAvinchey (Andover, MA) started the game for Bridgton throwing seven innings and giving up only one earned run. Cam Charette (Wenham, MA) came in at relief, throwing six innings and giving up only one earned run. Danny Wynne (Hasbrouck Heights, NY) and Stephen Trychon (Sterling, MA) each added two run homeruns in the fourth inning to put Bridgton on the scoreboard. Nick Swim (St. Albans, VT) had an outstanding defensive game, highlighted by a double play where he tagged out a runner at third base and threw across to first to complete the play. Ammad Khan (South Windsor, CT) threw the fourteenth inning, striking out two before a double and an error ended the game.

BA Goes 3-0 On the Weekend

Friday night the Wolverine baseball teams started off a busy weekend with a 6-3 win over Emmanuel College. While BA initially trailed 3-2 heading into the 7th inning, they soon turned things around. After BA’s lead off batter was retired, they strung six consecutive hits together. Paul Iasiello (Westborough, MA)had the hit of the game in the form of a two RBI double to take the lead. Colin Clancy (Chelmsford, MA), Zach Littman (Abington, MA), Nick Swim (St. Albans, VT), Danny Wynne (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ), Iasiello and Drew Carter (Newburyport, MA) each had a hit in the 7^th for the comeback win.

After a day off, the team hit the field for their next game and took away a 7-2 win over Merrimack College’s club team. Walker O’Connor led the effort on the mount with five innings pitched and seven strikeouts. Cam Charette (Wenham, MA) offered relief for two innings with, striking out four. Littman had another big day going five for five with a stolen base and four runs scored. Wynne and Ryan Slattery (Smithfield, RI) also had strong performances both going one for one with an RBI each.

After the big win over Merrimack, the Wolverines took a small break before taking the field again to play the University of New Hampshire’s Club team. While UNH was previously undefeated in NECBA league play, the Wolverines handed them a 7-5 loss.

While Bridgton was up 7-5 in the 6th, UNH loaded the bases. Slattery ran down a long fly ball, diving in the right center field gap for the final out of the inning. Still with a lead in the 7^th, UNH loaded the bases once again, this time with nobody out. Littman struck out three consecutive hitters to end the game and secure the win.

George Seigel was strong on the mound throwing four innings for the win and retiring six batters. Danny Sheehan (Scituate, MA), Ammad Khan (South Windsor, CT), and Littman all saw time on the mound in relief.

With BA holding the #5 seed in the playoffs, their opponent in Tuesdays matchup will be decided soon. Site and opponent will be decided by games this weekend, but the Wolverines are almost certainly playing Babson.

Baseball Falls to UNE

The baseball team suffered their first loss in a few games last night at the University of New England. After a big 11-0 win for BA earlier in the week, UNE was able to overtake BA with a 6-1 win this week. Caulin Rogers (Gloucester, MA) led the team at the plate with two hits and scored Bridgton's only run of the game. Ryan Iasiello (Westborough, MA) also tallied had two hits while Nick Swim (St. Albans, VT) had an RBI triple. Dan Sheehan (Scituate, MA) pitched five innings of relief and only gave up one run.

Up next the Wolverines will head to Portland, ME to take on the Frozen Ropes this Wednesday at 3:00 P.M.

Baseball Sweeps SMCC and UNE

This weekend the baseball team had two stellar performances. They started out Friday evening with a 5-1 win over Southern Maine Community College. Danny Wynne (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ) went one for two with an RBI triple early in the game to give Bridgton the advantage. Nick Swim (St. Albans, VT) also did well at the plate going two for four with an RBI and a stolen base. Eoin McAvinchey (Andover, MA) was solid on the mound pitching seven innings for the complete game only letting up two hits and two walks while striking out eleven batters.

With a day off in between, the baseball team faced the University of New England at home and shutout the Nor’easters 11-0. Paul Iasiello (Westborough, MA) led the effort at the plate going three for three with four RBIs and a triple. Zach Littman (Abington, MA) went one for two with two runs scored while Colin Clancy (Chelmsford, MA) went one for three with two runs scored. Brian Nessing (Manchester, CT) went one for one with an RBI. Cam Charette (Wenham, MA) pitched the complete five inning game with six strikeouts, two hits, and four walks.

Coach Izaryk was happy at the end of the week saying, "we are starting to play our best baseball of the year. With our NECBA playoffs on the horizon in the coming weeks, it is important for us to build on our successes from this weekend. Our pitching staff has been outstanding, our defense has supported them well, and we are starting to produce runs at the plate. We are looking forward to getting back on the field Wednesday at UNE."

The team will travel to UNE to play this Wednesday at 7:00 P.M.

Paul Iasiello Named September Athlete of the Month

Paul Iasiello (Westborough, MA) has been named September’s Athlete of the Month. Athletic Director Joe Sawicki takes nominations from all coaches and assesses at the players based not only on statistics, but the character and leadership of the athlete. Not only has Iasiello stepped up as a leader, but had a stellar performance on the field as well.

Iasiello hit .325 with four doubles, one triple, and one homerun.

In addition he tallied ten RBIs...

... and eight stolen bases.

Baseball Kicks Off Parents' Weekend With A Win

The baseball team took on Central Maine Community College on Friday to kick of the Class of 2012's Parents' Weekend. BA took a strong lead right off the bat which them managed to hold onto for the majority of the game. CMCC made an attempt at a comeback scoring a few runs late in the game, however BA was able come out on top with a 9-6 win.

In the game, Zach Littman (Abington, MA) had two hits and two runs scored to lead the effort at the plate along with some standout plays at short stop. Steve Trychon (Stearling, MA) also had great hit, Connor Steckel (Winchester, MA) added two more, and Stephen Russell (Nassau, Bahamas) tallied a double and two runs scored. Walker O'Connor (Bedford, MA) had another great day on the mound striking out the side in the first and second before earning the win. Eoin McAvinchey (Andover, MA) came in for the save.

Up next,t he Wolverines will travel to Central Maine Community College where they play at 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday October 5th.

BA 2 - Frozen Ropes 3

The baseball team took the field at USM to face off against the Frozen Ropes. The two teams have been battling all season, and this time the Frozen Ropes took the win by a very small margin with a score of 3-2. Stephen Trychon (Sterling, MA) had a great game with a double and stolen base. Walker O'Connor (Bedford, MA) added two hits, while Paul Iasiello (Westborough, MA) had an RBI double. Seven different pitchers saw time on the mound in the seven innings of play.

The game was a good effort and even better preparation for their game against CMCC over Parents' Weekend. The guys had a few days to practice and will now take the field Friday at 4:00 P.M. in front or family and friends. We hope to see you at the game!

Baseball Ends A Successful Week With A Win

The baseball team traveled to Lynn, Massachusetts and faced off against the University of Vermont’s club team this past weekend and tallied another win with a score of 7-1. George Seigel (Concord, NH) pitched five innings and struck out six at the plate. Cam Charrete (Wenham, MA) and Ammad Khan (New Britain, CT) each pitched for an inning of relief. Ryan Iasiello (Westborough, MA) had the defensive play of the day as he threw a runner out at home plate on an amazing assist from right field.

At the plate Caulin Rogers (Gloucester, MA) had a pair of singles and a run scored to start things off. Nick Swim (St. Albans, VT) added a hit and a RBI while Danny Wynne (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ) had a booming double off the fence in center field. Paul Iasiello (Westborough, MA) secured the win when he made contact for a three run homerun in the 7-1 victory over Vermont.

Up next the baseball team is on the road as the head to the University of Southern Maine to face off against the Frozen Ropes at 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday the 28th.

BA Hands SMCC Their First Loss

The baseball team took the field against 6-0 SMCC this past Wednesday. When SMCC scored first to take a 1-0 lead, the Wolverines picked up the effort to secure the win.

The team was strong at the plate, with multiple guys getting hits. Caulin Rogers (Gloucester, MA) led things off with a double, followed by Dustin Howe (Keene, NH) and Stephen Trychon (Sterling, MA) who tallied doubles as well. Paul Iasiello (Westborough, MA) had two hits, and Zachary Littman (Abington, MA), Brian Nessing (Manchester, CT) and Stephen Russell (Nassau, Bahamas) all added singles.

On the mound, Walker O'Connor (Bedford, MA) pitched five innings with six strike outs. Cam Charette (Wenham, MA) and Ammad Khan (New Britain, CT) came in to close out the game and both pitched one inning with both had three strike outs apiece.

Look for the Wolveirnes at home this weekend as the host Merrimack College on Saturday at 4:00 P.M.

UNH Slips Past BA

This weekend the baseball team traveled to the University of Maine where they took on the black bears in a double header. Bridgton left everything they had on the field and walked away with a 6-0 win after game one and a 6-1 win in game two. Check back later for the full story.

SMCC Slips Past BA

The Wolverine Baseball team traveled to Southern Maine Community College for their second match up of the season. Although they played a great game, SMCC was able to slip past with a close 2-1 win.

Ben Fields started off on the mound for the Wolverines, followed by Cam Charette, Danny Sheehan, and Walker O'Connor. All four guys threw well only letting up one hit in the game. SMCC capitalized on two lead-off walks in which they were able to make their way around and score two runs.

Ethan Hanson had a great game as he tied things up with an RBI single in the top of the 6th bringing Caulin Rogers home. Stephen Russell led off the 7th with a hit and was advanced to second off a bunt from Rogers. Unfortunately the game ended with Russell on second and the Wolverines were not able to tie things up.

Coach Izaryk was proud of the team as a whole but was especially impressed with Rogers' performance in the day. After great defensive plays including picking a ball at second for a force out, then throwing behind a runner at third to start a rundown for a double play. He also had two stolen bases and a sacrifice bunt to put the tying run into scoring position in the seventh.

"We played the game very well today," stated Coach Izaryk after the game. "I thought we learned a lot about the importance of limiting walks on the pitching side of things, giving up only one hit, but having two lead-off walks come around to score and be the difference. We had 19 players appear in the box score today, which speaks to our depth. I was excited about the intensity and focus we showed for the full seven innings and hopefully we can carry that momentum forward, heading into our league opener at UMaine this weekend" finished Izaryk.

Up next the baseball team will travel to the University of Maine for a double header this Saturday starting at 2:00 P.M.

Baseball Splits Opening Games

The baseball team started things off with a doubleheader which BA split with the Frozen Ropes. In the first game of the series Bridgton won 8-7. In a very close second game, Frozen Ropes was able to slip past Bridgton 3-2 in extra innings.

In the games, Nick Swim led the attack with a single, a double and a triple. Paul and Ryan Iasiello each added RBI hits in the games while Connor Steckel had two hits as well. Walker O'Connor and George Seigel led the pitching staff for the day. Seigel struck out seven batters over his three innings pitched and O'Connor threw three shutout innings in the second game.

Coach Izaryk was pleased with the performance saying, “in our first day of outside competition, we played hard and with intensity. In the first game, we played well enough to win and in the second game, we didn't, plain and simple. Our approach to the game will continue to develop as we build our team identity, and more and more players earn their time on the field. The week of practice leading up to our next games will be important for us, as we need to improve many of the fundamentals of the game. At the end of the day, we played a solid Frozen Ropes team and learned a lot about the make-up of our ball club. We're looking forward to Southern Maine Community College on Wednesday."

Shawn Kenney Commits to USM

Shawn Kenney (Braintree, MA) had an outstanding year at Bridgton Academy as a star member of both the ice hockey and baseball team. He has recently committed to the University of Southern Maine where he will be a two sport Husky.

Shawn could not be happier with his choice calling it “an opportunity to play two sports which I never thought I would have.” He continued saying, “everything about the school clicked for me. I am going to play the two sports I love, while receiving a quality education at the same time.”

Coach Izaryk sees the potential in Shawn saying, "Shawn is a winner in every sense of the word. He's a national champion hockey player here at BA, and has been a huge contributor on the baseball field to our success this spring. He plays the game with poise and intensity, which will serve him well in the very competitive Little East Conference. I am very excited to send Shawn to USM and Coach Flaherty, I think his speed, defense and table-setting ability at the plate will give him a chance to contribute right away."

Wolverines Win Season Closer

While the Wolverines started the spring season off with a rocky start, they pulled it together to end on a nine game winning streak with an overall record of 9-4. The Wolverines faced off against Kents Hill for their final contest of the season and ended the game 10-0 in just five innings.

Christian Lavoie (Hopkinton, MA) threw all five innings for BA without giving up a single run. Not only did Lavoie pitch, but he stepped up to the plate earning his first hit of the season. Other Wolverines who did well at the plate included Jason Hudson (Raleigh, NC) who went three for four with a double. Shawn Kenney (Braintree, MA) had a multi-hit game which included a double, and Dan Concannon (Everett, MA) tallied a double of his own.

Baseball Chops the Lumberjacks

The baseball team traveled to Hebron Academy to take on the Lumberjacks in hopes of keeping their streak alive. The rain held off, and the Wolverines won their eighth straight game 11-3. Ben Callahan (Exeter, NH) went the distance on the mound throwing a solid game. Shawn Kenney (Braintree, MA) had three hits including a double. Austin Wood (Naples, ME) also had two hits while Brad McGovern (Haverhill, MA) added a hit and two runs scored.

Up next the Wolverines will travel to Southern Maine Community College to play on Wednesday at 4:00 P.M. They then have their final game of the season at home on Friday against Kents Hill at 4:00 P.M.

Baseball Extends Winning Streak

The baseball team has had a successful run as they extend their win streak to six games. They traveled to Phillips Exeter Academy and walked away with a 27-5 win. They then faced Southern Maine Community College at home and won 10-6.

In Wednesday’s game against Phillips Exeter, Ben Callahan (Exeter, NH) took the mound in his home town and didn’t let anyone down. He threw for just over four innings and recorded two strikeouts. At the plate the Wolverines put up a strong effort resulting in 27 scored runs. Dan Concannon (Everett, MA) went four for six, scored two runs, with an RBI and a walk. Tanner Chase (York, ME) went two for four, scoring four runs, six RBIs, and a Grand Slam. Marco Spisso (Highland Falls, NY) went six for six, scoring four runs with four doubles and four RBIs. Jason Hudson (Raleigh, NC) went three for five, scoring three runs, and had three RBIs.

The next day when the Wolverines took their home field they kept up the momentum from the big win over Phillips Exeter and secured a 10-6 win over Southern Maine Community College. Joey McCarthy (West Roxbury, MA) started on the mound for five innings with five strikeouts and only allowed two hits. Christian Lavoie (Hopkinton, MA) came in for the save and threw for two innings striking out three batters and didn’t allow any hits. At the plate Shawn Kenney (Braintree, MA) performed well going one for one, scoring three runs, and taking a walk. McCarthy went two for four, scored two runs, tallied three RBIs, and hit a double and a triple. Chase was walked four times at the plate and scored two runs for the Wolverines. Spisso had another solid day going one for three with a double and two RBIs.

Up next the team will travel to Kents Hill this Saturday to play at 2:30 P.M.

This past week the Wolverines took on Buckingham Browne and Nichols, also known as BB&N, in what turned out to be a record shattering victory for Bridgton. BB&N was undefeated for two years with a lineup of scholarship players but could not keep the streak going as the Wolverines took the field.

Christian Lavoie (Hopkinton, MA) took the mound earning the win with six strikeouts, only giving up three walks, five hits, and allowing two runs scored. Shawn Kenney (Braintree, MA) went three for three at the plate with two walks, a stolen base, and two RBIs. Joey McCarthy (West Roxbury, MA) went three for four with two walks, a double, scored three runs, and had two RBIs. Dan Concannon (Everett, MA) went three for four with two walks, a double, scored a run, and had two RBIs. Ben Callahan (Exeter, NH) went three for five with two RBIs and one run.

Coach Izaryk commented after the game, "We played our best game of the year today. It all started on the mound today with Christian Lavoie giving us a chance to score first, and ultimately, extend our lead. We had many players contribute offensively today, and our defense made routine plays behind Christian. We certainly had our share of special defensive plays as well, but facing a team like BB&N, who are so deep and talented, we knew we needed to play well in all three facets of the game to win. I am proud of the game we played today."

The next day the Wolverines faced off against Holderness and walked away with a 12-2 win that ended with a Tanner Chase (York, ME) home run. Callahan threw a solid game and had eight strikeouts, only let up three hits, two walks, and two earned runs. Marco Spisso (Highland Falls, NY) did well at the plate going two for two with a double and three RBIs. Concannon also had a solid day at the plate going two for three with a double and two runs scored.

At the end of the week, Coach Izaryk was very happy with the team’s performance in every single game, especially their last. "I was happy with our energy today. Sometimes after a big win on the road, it can be tempting to relax a bit. In support of Ben Callahan's effort on the mound, we scored first and played aggressive, smart baseball all day. I was especially happy with the play of Tanner Chase, who made routine plays for us at short like he's done all year, but delivered a home run to right field to end the game. Tanner has tremendous potential to go along with a tireless work ethic, and it was nice to see him get rewarded for all the hard work he put in this week," commented Izaryk.

Up next the Wolverines will take on Hebron Academy at home this Wednesday at 3:00 PM.

Sean Mullen Commits to Merrimack

Sean Mullen (Barnstable, MA) has joined the ranks of committed Wolverine this past week. Next year Sean will be attending Merrimack College as a member of the Warriors Baseball team.

When asked how he felt about this big choice, Sean responded, "Im very excited and relieved that the decision is over. I am also happy that I have an opportunity to play Division II collegiate baseball next year. Out of high school I had no options. BA really opened up the door for me and I am grateful for that."

When we continued talking Sean mentioned that as excited as he is to play baseball, it wasn't the deciding factor. "To be honest it was all about the school. When I visited it was the perfect fit. The school offers great academics, and I will be able to explore more than just baseball. When I graduate I will have a well rounded college career that is only made better by the fact that I can play baseball," Sean said.

Coach Izaryk is very happy with Sean's decision saying, "Sean's commitment to Merrimack is very exciting for our program. Sean has worked tirelessly to improve himself as a player and student-athlete, and we're very proud of him. His offer of admission to Merrimack, as well as his commitment from the baseball program, are both well-deserved. I think Sean will be challenged by the academics at Merrimack, as well as Coach Martin's baseball program, but Sean has proven time and again that he is a competitor and I am confident that Sean will make the most of his opportunities at Merrimack. "

The Wolverines Take Home a Big Win

The baseball team was finally able to turn the season around with a big 12-0 win over Thayer Academy. Joey McCarthy (West Roxbury, MA) took the mound for six innings and recorded 10 strikeouts, only gave up 2 hits and two walks, and didn’t allow any runs.

Solid pitching started the team off well and strong performances at the plate sealed the victory. McCarthy had a big day all around going 2-4 with a double, a homerun, and three RBIs. Ben Callahan (Exeter, NH) went 3-4 with a double, 3 runs scored, and an RBI. Bo Belt (Concord, MA) batted well going 3-4 with a double and three RBIs. Dan Cushing (Wilmington, MA) made his first appearance of the season batting 2-4 with a homerun, three RBIs, and two runs scored.

The team was thrilled with the win and credited everyone for their effort. “The whole team came out to play. We really came together and played as a team. It felt great to win under the belt,” commented team captain Christian Lavoie.

With this big victory behind them, the team is now looking to continue the momentum as they travel this Wednesday to Southern Maine Community College to play at 3:00 P.M.

Wolverines Looking to Spring Back

In the first game of the weekend against Phillips Academy the Wolverines put up a good fight but ultimately lost 1-0. Christian Lavoie (Hopkinton, MA) took the mound and recorded four strikeouts, gave up three hits, two walks, and the only run of the game. Shawn Kenney (Braintree, MA) came in at relief and retired the two batters he faced. At the plate Joey McCarthy (West Roxbury, MA) went 1 for 3 with a stolen base. Dan Concannon (Everett, MA) went 1 for 3 as well and Marco Spisso (Highland Falls, NY) went 1 for 2.

Coach Izaryk was happy with the day’s game saying, “Christian gave us a quality start, getting us to the sixth inning with a chance to win. We faced a tough pitcher from Phillips Academy, who threw three pitches for strikes. We needed to do a better job of getting the ball in play with two strikes, and limiting strikeouts. To win a close game, a team needs to execute in every facet of the game, and we were missing the offensive part today."

The following day the Wolverines faced Franklin Pierces JV squad in a double header. In game one the Wolverines fell 7-5 despite solid pitching from Sean Mullen (Barnstable, MA). Mullen threw five innings with four strikeouts, six hits, five runs (three earned), and two walks. McCarthy had another big game at the plate going 2 for 3 with a triple, two walks, three runs scored, and a stolen base. Concannon has did well going 2 for 2 with two doubles and two runs batted in.

In game two of the doubleheader BA fell 12-4 to Franklin Pierce. Ben Callahan (Exeter, NH) started and pitched the first 4 innings for BA recording three strikeouts, five hits, eight runs (seven earned), and five walks. Bo Belt (Concord, MA) came in for the last three and had three strikeouts, five hits, two runs, and two walks. Belt was also strong at the plate going 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. Austin Wood (Naples, ME) went 1 for 2 at the plate with a double and a walk.

Although the team suffered two losses, Coach Izaryk was positive about the efforts. "Sean threw very well in game one, and Ben had all his pitches going in game two. I was happy with our starting pitching, who allowed us to settle into both games with some scoreless innings early. In game one, we battled until the final out, scoring four in the final inning with some quality at-bats. In game two, our defense was very shaky and we need to shore some things up if we expect to win. I am looking forward to Joey McCarthy taking the mound on Monday vs. Thayer, and giving us a chance to win, just like our starters did this weekend. If we can improve offensively and play sound defense, we should put ourselves in a position to win late in the game," said Izaryk.

Up next the team travels to Southern Maine Community College on Wednesday to play at 3:00 P.M.

BA Drops Spring Opener

On a crisp spring day the baseball team took the field against Quinsigamond Community College and proved to be their own worst enemy with simple mistakes leading to the 7-1 loss. Christian Lavoie (Hopkinton, MA) and Joey McCarthy (West Roxbury, MA) shared time on the mound and put forth great efforts which were not reflected in the number of runs against them. At bat Shawn Kenney recorded the teams first hit of the spring season. Terry Casey (Halifax, NS) followed up with a big hit earning him a double and scored the only run of the game for Bridgton. McCarthy was also solid at bat going two for three with an RBI, a stolen base, and a walk. With their first game behind them the baseball team is shaking it off and preparing for their upcoming games.

Up next they will travel to play Avon Old Farms on Saturday April 2nd at 2:30 P.M. They will then travel Southern New Hampshire University to play a double header on Sunday starting at 12:00 P.M.

Season Opener Is A Few Days Away

Spring Schedule announced

The BA Athletic Department recently announced the spring baseball schedule. Athletic Director, Joe Sawicki, was excited with the release. Sawicki stated, "We once again have a really challenging schedule this spring. We added some new teams (Quinsigamond CC, Avon Old Farms, SNHU JV) that should give us some outstanding games. Coach Izaryk did a great job getting the guys ready to play this fall and I am certain that we will be ready to go on opening day." Here is the schedule:

Ben Callahan Commits to Keene State

Ben Callahan (Exeter, NH) recently committed to Keene State where he will join the Owls Baseball team. Callahan is the fourth Wolverine to commit, and the second to choose Keene State. He and Tanner Chase are both members of the 2011 Keene State Baseball recruiting class. When Callahan was asked what it was about the school that attracted him, he commented “it just seems like it will be a great place for me to fit in. The coaching staff was great, it’s a nice small campus, and they have amazing facilities.” He continued to mention the fact that it has been a weight lifted off his shoulders saying, “this is a stressful time so once I committed it was definitely a relief. Now I can focus on finishing my year at BA strong and prepare for the fall.”

Any time a Wolverine commits to college, Coach Izaryk could not be happier. When Callahan made the decision, Izaryk stated "Ben's commitment to Keene State is a win-win. Ben is committing to a highly competitive baseball program, under the direction of a respected coaching staff led by Head Coach Ken Howe. The Keene State baseball program is adding an individual with outstanding character who has potential to have a strong impact in the Little East Conference for years to come. Ben had a great visit to KSC and (along with KSC commit Tanner Chase) will bring a wealth of competitiveness and preparation to the Owl baseball program in the fall of 2011."
